A seven-year-old boy has died a day after an attack on two people at a district hospital in Regensburg, Bavaria. The bloody incident took place in a child and adolescent psychiatric institution – a 14-year-old is considered a suspect. A nurse (63) was also injured.
As the newspaper “Bild” reported, the teenager had posted a photo of himself on the morning of the crime – the photo shows him in a hospital toilet with a knife, black gloves and a cap low on his face. He is said to have written “Revenge” underneath.
The researchers do not rule out an extremist background. On Friday, police announced that the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism at the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office had taken over the investigation into two cases of attempted murder. Because the youngster might be incompetent, he was placed in a psychiatric clinic.
Teen planned ‘intense’ serious acts of violence
The 14-year-old had been known to the police since the beginning of this year. He is said to have, among other things, “worked intensively on the planning and execution of the most serious acts of violence” in relevant chat groups. However, at that time he was not yet criminally liable.
Explosives found during youth raid
The newspapers of the Bavaria media group reported on Friday, citing the Regensburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, that the teenager had planned an act of violence at a school in Upper Palatinate. The authority itself was initially unavailable for comment. According to “Bild” he allegedly threatened to blow up his school in chat groups – during a raid in January on the then 13-year-old boy and a friend of the same age, explosives, airsoft weapons and dummy bombs were found.
According to police, the seven-year-old was initially “in an extremely critical condition” after the crime. The 63-year-old was also seriously injured and police said he was in stable condition on Friday. A clinic employee eventually stopped the attack. He suffered injuries to his hand in the attack, but has since been released from hospital.
