In Greenland the clocks will soon no longer tick “differently”. The country wants to get closer to Denmark and therefore to the rest of Europe and is therefore not turning the clock back to winter time for the first time. According to the capital Nuuk, a “new time zone” will prevail.
From Sunday, the time difference between Austria and Greenland will only be three hours instead of four.
The Greenland government agreed in November 2022 to abolish summer and winter time on the island. The UTC-2 time zone applies all year round. Greenland is officially part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but is largely autonomous.
According to government information, clocks may only be turned back on weekends in the small East Greenland town of Ittoqqortoormiit, which will not adjust to the new time zone until March 2024.
Daylight saving time ends in Austria on Sunday. On October 29, the hands in Europe will be reset to standard time from 3 o’clock to 2 o’clock.
