A major operation in the Tyrolean silver town of Schwaz caused a stir on Saturday afternoon. According to information from “Krone,” a woman and her toddler drifted into the inn. The police initially did not want to reveal any further details. In any case, the operational manager of the Red Cross confirmed that there was an operation.
“We were notified of a water emergency at approximately 1:15 p.m. It was said that two people had been seen in the inn,” Niklas Kaufmann, head of operations at the Schwaz Red Cross, told the “Tiroler Krone”. He could not yet provide any information about who it was. According to information from the “Tiroler Krone”, it involved a mother and her toddler. Passersby who saw the two in the Barbarian Bridge area raised the alarm.
Flown to the clinic by helicopter
“We were on site within about seven minutes,” Kaufmann continues. The fire brigade managed to rescue the woman and her child from the inn. “We then provided medical care,” continues the operational manager. The two were flown by helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck “in critical condition”.
Apparently resuscitation was also necessary. Kaufmann could neither confirm nor deny this and referred the matter to the police. A spokesperson there confirmed that the operation had taken place. “We cannot yet provide any information about who it was,” it said.
It is still unclear where and how exactly mother and child ended up in the Herberg. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing. According to Kaufmann, cooperation between the emergency services went smoothly.
