Last week alone, two femicides took place in Austria. The “Krone” spoke to a Lower Austrian woman who was almost beaten to death by her partner in 2011 – and now helps victims of violence. Plus: a perpetrator about his cruelty to his wife.
Hanife Ada sits in a restaurant on the outskirts of Vienna and orders breakfast; Coffee, orange juice, a sandwich thickly covered with cheese: “I’m happy that I can enjoy food again. Because I once suffered from bulimia.” And the Lower Austrian immediately points to her swollen legs and arms: “There are countless screws and plates in my body.”
They were used for her operations: ‘I don’t even know how many there were.’ In the almost three decades of their horror marriage. “The bulimia, the broken bones – were the consequences of the wounds my husband inflicted on me.” Mentally and physically. Over and over again, “until he almost killed me in 2011.”
