Investigators have managed to catch a teenage gang of 24 members in Vienna, believed to be responsible for numerous burglaries in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. The damage so far amounts to over half a million euros.
A total of 500 crimes have been solved so far. The suspects are 24 minors, between the ages of twelve and seventeen. All are considered suspects.
Cars and taxis were broken into
At the end of April, researchers still assumed that the group was suspected of having committed more than 350 burglaries, mainly in cars and taxis. They used an emergency hammer to break the window and stole numerous items.
Another 130 burglaries
In June and July, another approximately 130 burglaries, mainly by breaking triangular windows, were committed in the Viennese districts of Floridsdorf, Donaustadt, Liesing and Hernals. The young people again focused on cars and taxis.
In the summer, the police were able to track down two suspects, both 13 years old at the time. Both admitted to being responsible for a large number of burglaries. They also named their accomplices. This led to further arrests. In some cases, the suspects were even caught red-handed.
Young people in custody
The remaining young people are between 14 and 15 years old and are being investigated as serious perpetrators. You are currently in prison.
Burglaries committed in stores
As if that wasn’t enough, the officers were also able to solve burglaries in business premises. This created a familiar modus operandi for the investigators, which further narrowed the circle of suspects. An emergency hammer was also used again.
Currently, 44 minors, some of whom are minors, are strongly suspected of having committed approximately 1,200 crimes against other people’s property in various combinations of crimes in the Greater Vienna region, Lower Austria, in the period from autumn 2023 to early December 2024 and Burgenland. Three quarters of the cases involve car burglaries.
The damage currently assessed amounts to almost 500,000 euros.
