Turkish growers struggle with cheap imports: are companies abandoning organic farmers?

Date:

A ‘Krone’ report caused a stir among readers, according to which a turkey breeder had put his brand new organic farm up for sale on the Internet. Reason: The major supermarket chains had canceled the contracts of the farmer involved using a state-of-the-art system. Even politicians got involved. The “Krone” now inquired again.

A cogeneration plant including PV system supplies energy, a “sun deck” provides the feel-good factor – and everything else is built ecologically and animal-friendly. The resourceful farmer, who also supplies the stable bedding from his own production, even had a sales slogan: ‘Happy Pute’: Actually everything was ready, but in the end the supermarket chains preferred to rely on cheaper meat of dubious origin from foreign farms. After the ‘Krone’ report and interventions by politicians, the tide seemed to be turning.
