A group of activists has been occupying the villa of oligarch Igor Shuvalov since Saturday morning. The squatters want to set an example against vacancy and demand that the use be released.
After the occupation of the house of ex-ski star Marcel Hirscher last Saturday in Andräviertel in Salzburg, the villa of Russian oligarch and ex-Deputy Prime Minister Igor Schuvalow on Lake Attersee is now occupied. According to their own statements, some 50 to 60 activists have occupied the villa in Burgau, which belongs to the municipality of St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee, which has been empty for several months since the morning hours.
“Loose Alliance of Anarchist Activists”
A spokeswoman for the group said it was a “loose alliance of anarchist activists”. They demand expropriation from the Russian owner. The squatters, who stand in solidarity with and linked to the activists of the “Rise Up” movement, who also squatted the Hirscher house, want the action to be a sign of the use of vacant buildings, free access to the lake and also the conversion of vacant homes for refugees.
They also want to put a stop to the increasing privatization of the Attersee, according to the activists in a broadcast.
