“Nothing happened” – a wrong-way driver was relatively relaxed when he saw that he was driving in the wrong direction on the Innkreis highway (Upper Austria). The police thought differently and confiscated the driver’s license.
Several road users reported a wrong-way driver on the highway in the Wels area on Sunday evening. Specific mention was made of a silver car with a Romanian license plate. A civilian patrol then started the journey towards Suben.

Ultimately, the 80-year-old Romanian citizen was arrested and checked in the Haag am Hausruck district. He immediately admitted that he had gotten lost on the A25 at the Wels junction and had accidentally taken the A8 towards Voralpenkreuz.
He noticed the mistake while he was still in the driveway, turned his car around, drove back towards the A25 via the passing lane and then continued his journey towards Suben. He simply said that “nothing had happened.” The driver’s driver’s license was temporarily confiscated, he was not allowed to continue driving and a deposit was requested.
