Embarrassing mistake: Trump mixes up city names during his campaign speech

Date:

Former President Donald Trump made an embarrassing mistake during a campaign appearance in the US state of Iowa. He greeted the crowd in “Sioux Falls” (in South Dakota, note) – but the event took place in Sioux City, Iowa’s fourth largest city.

“Well, thank you very much,” Trump said as he greeted the crowd in Sioux City before his speech on Sunday evening. “And a big shout out to a place where we did very well: Sioux Falls. Thank you, Sioux Falls.” The crowd in Sioux City reacted to the confusion with boos.

Trump, who has four criminal cases pending against him, then invited Iowa State Senator Brad Zaun to the stage. He said he was proud to be Trump’s first supporter. As Zaun left the stage, he shook Trump’s hand and whispered the city’s real name in his ear.

“There is this man, Viktor Orbán, has anyone ever heard of him?” Trump asked the audience at the New England Sports Center in Derry, but gave the (wrong) answer. “He is probably one of the strongest leaders in the world. He is the leader of Türkiye,” he explained. In fact, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the president of Türkiye…
