If you can’t control your kids, you’ll pay extra in a restaurant in Georgia (USA). That leads to criticism. Until now, the fee was just a warning.
There’s a new rule at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in Georgia: if kids don’t behave, things get expensive! The owner, Tim Richter, has introduced an ‘adult surcharge’ to warn parents.
This charge is even listed at the bottom of the restaurant’s menu, which advertises its “award-winning steaks and seafood” online. There it says “adult supplement for adults who cannot be parents”. The menu with the surcharge (see image below) can also be found on the restaurant’s website.
The story spread on social media after a family with a group of children stormed the restaurant. Lyndsey Landmann was at the restaurant with her husband and four other families – a total of 11 children between the ages of three and eight.
$50 noise surcharge
“The children sat at the end of the table and were so well behaved,” Landmann recalls. “I even praised them halfway through the meal for their good behavior.” Nevertheless, restaurant owner Tim Richter allegedly threatened her with a $50 surcharge for the noise.
He explains that the warning is necessary because parents are increasingly letting children ‘run screaming through the restaurant’. So far, the fee has only been used as a warning.
