Before knife attack – ‘Apologize to my father or move’

Date:

The five stab wounds inflicted on his wife by a 66-year-old in Laakirchen, Upper Austria, resulted from an argument the day before – it actually involved an argument with the man’s father-in-law. Guardianship has now been filed. The woman has not yet been interviewed.

Attempted homicide! The knife attack by a 66-year-old from Laakirchner on his wife (60) had – as the suspect said in the interrogation – its real cause in a banal argument the day before. But not between spouses, but with the father-in-law. “Stop the argument and apologize or I will throw you out of the apartment,” the 60-year-old allegedly verbally put the gun to her husband’s chest in their shared apartment on Monday.

But the 66-year-old reacted differently than expected. “According to his own statements, he swallowed 30 tablets,” reports Silke Enzlmüller, spokeswoman for the Wels public prosecutor’s office, in response to a “Krone” request from the interrogation protocol. But this attempt to commit suicide with the medication, which was supposed to lower blood pressure and strengthen the heart, was inappropriate, according to doctors. There was never any danger to life.

“I will not be pressured”
The man from Laakirchen called for help himself and told his wife, who had now laid down on the couch. She reportedly said she would not allow herself to be pressured. And that was apparently the reason for the bloody crime. Because her answer had hurt him, the 66-year-old (the presumption of innocence applies) – in his own words – wanted to hurt her too.

Five stitches
He grabbed a kitchen knife with a blade of about twelve centimeters and stabbed her with it. He himself remembers three stitches, but in the hospital they eventually counted five stitches in the shoulder area, as well as a cut in the left forearm – a defensive injury.

Victim named brother
The victim was able to escape and call his brother for help. Shortly afterwards, the already alerted paramedics arrived and took both couples to the hospital in Gmunden. That’s where the relieving news came from on Tuesday: the stabbing victim had not suffered life-threatening injuries, but the 60-year-old could not yet be officially questioned by the police. A request for pre-trial detention has now been submitted for the 66-year-old.
