The holiday is sunny and mild. From Thursday, the weather situation in Austria will look completely different again: a striking cold front will arrive and an Adriatic low will also bring large amounts of precipitation to the south of the country. Local flooding and landslides are expected.
Weather experts warn: the southern areas from Vorarlberg via Tyrol and from Salzburg to northwestern Styria will be particularly affected. The largest amounts of precipitation are expected in East Tyrol and Carinthia.
It is expected to rain from Thursday afternoon and maximum precipitation will be reached on Friday night. The rain showers are expected to gradually decrease during the morning. The snowfall line drops to about 1000 meters.
Winter tire requirement in effect
Speaking of snow: from November 1, drivers in Austria are once again required to have the correct winter equipment. Drivers of cars and trucks up to 3.5 tonnes must wear winter tires in snow, mud or ice or alternatively have snow chains installed on at least two drive wheels. Chains are only allowed when the road is completely covered in snow or ice. The winter tire obligation applies until April 15 of the following year, for buses until March 15.
In any case, the weather situation should calm down again from Friday, before the next cold front rolls in again on Sunday.
Only on Tuesday evening did a mudslide occur on the Brenner highway in Tyrol due to heavy rain. A car was hit by the debris, but fortunately no one was injured.
