A car went up in flames in Innsbruck late on Tuesday evening. According to the driver, a fire suddenly broke out in the engine compartment while driving. Fortunately, the driver and her passenger escaped the shock and were unharmed.
The vehicle fire took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the Höttinger Au in Innsbruck. ‘The driver stated that smoke and flames suddenly appeared in the area around the engine block while driving,” the police reported.
The police patrol fought the fire with fire extinguishers
The fire was initially temporarily extinguished by an arriving police patrol using a fire extinguisher. Innsbruck’s professional fire brigade ultimately carried out the final extinguishing work, the report said.
The driver and passenger were uninjured
“The cause of the fire was determined to be a technical defect in the windshield washer area,” investigators said. The driver and her passenger were uninjured. The extent of the material damage caused cannot yet be quantified.
The intersection Höttinger Au/Bachlechnerstraße towards Kranebitter Allee was closed during the fire-fighting work.
