This is the weather situation: rain, snow and showers in the south of Austria

Date:

After a short break in rain, the next round of precipitation will start again on Friday. Heavy rain showers reach Carinthia from Italy and Slovenia.

Heavy rain showers reach southern Austria from Italy and Slovenia. Heavy rainfall of up to 120 liters per square meter is expected. According to forecasts, the usual water flow in the Drava could be tripled. The city of Villach therefore closes the Gail cycle path and the verges on either side of the Drau throughout the city. The Carinthian Civil Protection Association, together with the crisis team, calls on citizens to take personal responsibility: take the weather warnings for their areas seriously.

The fire brigade is present and in case of emergency a mobile flood protection system has been set up on the Glan in Poppichl. When it rains, there are gusts of up to 80 km/h, especially in the direction of the Karawanken and the southern parts of the country.

Winter conditions on the mountain
Mrs. Holle greets the mountains, it becomes white, the snow line drops to 1,400 to 1,800 meters. The situation in Adlersruhe is currently extreme. Everything is at its limit here, says mountain guide Toni Riepler: “During the inspection tour to the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte, it was breathtaking. On the one hand because of my poor condition, on the other hand because of the enormous space in the hut and cable car. I have never seen it so massive and covered with real ice.” The conditions on the mountain are very wintery, Riepler continues: “Currently there is about a meter of snow at 3250 meters!”

Ski opening on the Mölltal Glacier
There is also snow on the Mölltal Glacier. The ski opening was originally scheduled to take place here on Thursday (November 2). However, due to the strong wind and poor visibility in recent days, this could not go ahead. New date is November 5. Lane 3 opens here.

Valleys are spared from snow for the time being
The Großglockner can already look forward to some snow in Schareck. The Turrach and the Nassfeld are slightly sugary. Over the course of Friday and Sunday, the heavy precipitation is expected to add several inches of snow everywhere. However, the valleys are still spared and will remain so for the time being, says Konstantin Brandes of Ubimet: “Next week it will be colder, so the chance of fresh snow increases in the high valleys. Otherwise, snow in the valleys is not expected at least once until mid-month. But then it can happen relatively quickly as soon as it gets colder!”
