Several communities in Central and Southern Burgenland experienced unusual weather conditions.
Hail in early November? “This is not normal,” said a southern Burgenlander who could not believe his eyes on Friday afternoon. Hail showers are usually associated with oppressive summer days.
The residents of Rudersdorf were all the more surprised when, after a storm, they saw gardens and fields covered with the unusual splendor of the season. Hail showers – accompanied by lightning and thunder – fell over the village for several minutes before the clouds finally cleared. Small grains of ice were found on the street, but they quickly melted away.
Lights out
Parts of Central Burgenland were also hit by storms, which were also accompanied by hailstorms. In addition, in some cities the lights suddenly went out. Internet, telephone, nothing worked anymore. The cause of the power outage was probably a lightning strike on a light pole. After about an hour and a half the power supply was restored.
