On Sunday evening, officers from the Favoriten city police command were alerted by a 59-year-old who had locked herself in the bathroom out of fear of her abusive husband. The furious man even threatened to throw his shocked wife off the balcony if she did not give him more money.
Domestic violence is currently back in high season in Vienna! According to the 59-year-old’s statements, in the current case in Favoriten, there have been repeated quarrels between her and her 66-year-old husband, a Serbian citizen, for years.
The victim locked herself in the bathroom
“Today he hit her several times and also hit her with his fist. “He also threatened her that he would throw her off the balcony if she did not give him more money,” the alleged victim told arriving police units. The woman then locked herself in the bathroom until responding officers arrived at the apartment.
No access and police appeal
The 66-year-old was arrested at the scene on suspicion of serious coercion and bodily harm. However, during the subsequent interrogation, the suspect did not confess. The 66-year-old was banned from entering and approaching the building, as well as a temporary weapons ban.
In the meantime, the investigation is in full swing. The executive once again emphasizes the protection of victims: “The Vienna Police is the point of contact for people who observe violence or are victims of violence themselves. The police emergency number can be reached at all times at number 133,” it reads.
