Winter chaos on the roads – blowing snow causes more than 25 accidents in Upper Austria

Date:

Some fire brigades in Upper Austria have been in continuous action since Thursday evening: the winter driving conditions caused a number of accidents. For example in Bad Leonfelden, where a truck trailer hit a car, or in Zwettl an der Rodl, where a truck fell off the embankment.

“The road was quite slippery and the truck probably skidded around the bend. “He hit the guardrail and fell off the embankment,” said Andreas Ganglberger, commander of the FF Zwettl an der Rodl, about an accident on Thursday evening.

Fortunately, the two occupants of the truck were able to free themselves. “They were in shock, but not injured,” Ganglberger said. Who and his team sealed the truck’s leaking fuel tank and helped put the vehicle back on its wheels and on the road.

Zwettl fire brigade constantly in operation
The Zwettl volunteer fire brigade in particular was constantly in use. Just a few hours after the truck was recovered, she was called to Bad Leonfelden due to an accident: a truck trailer had hit a car. On the way back from this mission, the Floriani helped a newspaper deliverer who had gotten his car stuck in the snow.

Shortly afterwards, the FF Zwettl was warned again: this time a car had hit the crash barrier of the B126 and came to a standstill on its roof next to the road.

More snowfall
Fire brigades in Upper Austria have had to respond to accidents or vehicle rescues more than 25 times since Thursday evening. Fortunately, most of them appeared to be unharmed, according to the state fire command. Drivers should prepare for continued difficult driving conditions, with heavy snow expected on Saturday night.
