France will install warning buttons in schools to alert police if attacks occur

Reflection on these types of measures has been revived after the attack on October 13 on a secondary school in Arras by a young jihadist. The Minister of Education must receive municipal representatives today to define safety measures.

The French Prime Minister, Elizabeth Bornethis Monday opened the doors for generalization in the schools of warning buttons to immediately notify the police in the event of safety incidents. This measure comes a few weeks after the murder of a teacher by a jihadist.

In an interview with the French radio station Inter Borne, he emphasized that this device “is an answer that is generalizable“and has indicated that the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attalshould receive municipal representatives today (in France, municipal councils are responsible for school buildings) to adopt security measures.

Reflection on these types of measures has been revived after the last attack October 13, a secondary school in Arras by a young Russian jihadist from the Caucasian republic of Ingushetia who had studied in that center and who stabbed a teacher to death.

Various hypotheses have been investigated to strengthen security, such as the systematization of metal detectors at the entrance to schools. Some delegates have even proposed the installation of video surveillance equipment with facial recognition.
