A now dismissed employee of the municipality of Oberndorf was sentenced on Wednesday at the Salzburg Regional Court to a suspended prison sentence of twelve months and a fine of 3,600 euros for breach of trust and abuse of office. The repentant man is said to have caused a total damage of 220,000 euros through malpractice to the detriment of his employer and to three households that he managed without the knowledge of the community.
Ex-employee apologized for his actions
The suspect has remained innocent so far. He accepted the verdict. However, it is not legally binding because public prosecutor Sabine Krünes has not ruled on it. “He has already made a full confession during the preliminary investigation,” his lawyer, lawyer Wolfgang Auer, said at the start of the trial. “He will not answer any further questions today, other than his remorseful confession.” The suspect’s information was therefore brief. He apologized for his actions. “I can’t say I’m sorry enough.”
The district attorney specifically charged the suspect with failing to collect water, sewer and landfill fees for three homeowners associations. As a result, the community lost an income of approximately 60,000 euros. In addition, he is said to have repeatedly transferred small amounts – a total of 91,000 euros – from community accounts to one of the household accounts and then wrongly forwarded or corrected part of them – a total of 69,000 euros – to his private account. The period of the crime ranged from 2014 to 2022.
