Visitors to a concert in Russia caused a stir with anti-war chants. Many users posted a short video on social networks this weekend, showing hundreds of people yelling “shit war, shit war” in front of a stage.
According to independent media and well-known opposition figures, the recording was made during a performance by the Russian rock group Kiss-Kiss last Friday in the Baltic Sea metropolis of St. Petersburg. “Kiss Kiss” is also on the stage in illuminated letters.
The band, which had previously opposed the Russian war in Ukraine, initially did not comment. Some users were concerned that the musicians now fear legal consequences. In Russia, the war against Ukraine is officially called only a “military special operation”. Those who spread so-called “fake news” about the Russian army risk severe penalties.
“Home is not the president’s ass”
Last week, a video of a concert of the band DDT in the city of Ufa in the Urals was widely shared on Russia’s social networks. It shows frontman Yuri Shevchuk yelling at the audience, “At home, my friends, this is not the president’s ass that needs to be licked and kissed all the time. At home – that’s the poor grandmother at the station selling potatoes.”
Shevchuk received applause from the concertgoers. It was later revealed that the singer is now under investigation for discrediting the Russian armed forces.
