Tyrolean police have now tracked down a fugitive robber who allegedly attacked and robbed an 18-year-old in Innsbruck together with three accomplices in the summer. There were wild scenes during the arrest. The suspected Iraqi (18) jumped from a balcony and collided with bicycles underneath.
July 22, 4 a.m.: Four initially unknown men targeted the 18-year-old local man sitting on the ground. They stood up to their victim and demanded cash. The Tyrolean, who was grabbed by the neck, was threatened with a beating if he did not comply with the demand.
Three arrests, Iraqis managed to escape
The quartet stole more than 100 euros. After the coup, the men ran away. Thanks to an immediately started manhunt, the police were able to locate the four suspects relatively quickly. While three suspected perpetrators – two Syrians aged 19 and 21 and a 29-year-old man from Yemen – were arrested, the fourth of the group (an 18-year-old Iraqi) managed to escape.
Successful search after several months
The investigation into the fugitive was in full swing. Initially no success. But now, months after the crime, Innsbruck police have tracked down the Iraqi. However, things were turbulent during the arrest. “The suspect tried to avoid this,” investigators say.
Which he initially succeeded in spectacularly. “The 18-year-old jumped from the balcony of a first-floor apartment and crashed into bicycles parked below,” investigators continued. The young man suffered significant injuries to his face and right leg.
“Suspect does not confess”
Ultimately, the suspect was arrested and taken to the clinic in Innsbruck under a police escort. After outpatient treatment, he was transferred to the police detention center. “The suspect has not confessed,” it says. Further investigations are underway.
