According to “Krone” information, a terrible drama took place not far from the popular “hippie village” Kamala on the Greek island of Crete. An Austrian paid for a trip to picturesque caves with his death.
Matala in southern Crete was once a place of longing for dropouts and hippies – music legends like Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens also lived here. Even today, the picturesque fishing village still attracts countless tourists. One reason for this is the world famous caves of Matala.
Tourist was traveling alone
That’s exactly where a 24-year-old Austrian wanted to go. The young man and his friends are said to have checked into a hotel in Heraklion. But because his red-white-red companions decided against it, he boarded the bus alone for a day trip to the caves.
Austrian never returned to the bus
For the journey home, however, he was the only one who would never catch the bus. It is still unclear what exactly happened in the caves. In any case, rescue workers and fire brigades were alerted by other tourists. By the time rescuers reached the scene of the accident, it was already too late.
Rescuers couldn’t do anything
While climbing the jagged rocks around the caves, the Austrian may have lost his balance and fell from a great height. Rescuers also struggled to reach the exposed site. They were unable to help him – the 24-year-old succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
