A motorist (29) crashed into a police car in Graz on Wednesday evening that was driving with flashing lights and a horn. The man had earlier overtaken a bus that had stopped because the patrol car was on duty. Two policewomen (25 and 35) were injured and taken to UKH Graz.
The accident happened around 7:30 PM directly in front of the Plüddemanngasse police station. The patrol was on its way to a burglary in the south of Graz with flashing lights and a horn. The driver stopped the commercial vehicle at the intersection because a northbound bus was approaching. The bus driver also stopped to give way to the patrol vehicle when the driver suddenly overtook the bus and crashed into the driver’s side of the police vehicle. One police officer was able to return to work, the other was not.
The patrol car was no longer operational due to the serious damage. There were no signs of intoxication by the driver. He was unharmed, but will face charges.
