Two young people (19 and 20) were seriously injured on Saturday evening at a barbecue party in Oepping (Upper Austria). After a friend (20) poured bioethanol on the fire, her clothes immediately caught fire.
Nine young people from the Rohrbach district were sitting around a concrete table with a fireplace at a barbecue in the garden of a house in Oepping on 21 May around 9.30 pm. In the center of the table was a milled channel lined with sheet metal, which was filled with bioethanol and lit.
Igniters sprayed in the gutter
Wanting to fan the fire further, a 20-year-old shot igniter from a 1-litre bottle into the gutter. The flammable liquid probably overflowed and hit two teenagers sitting opposite each other at the table. The clothes of the 20-year-old and the 19-year-old, both from Anreit, immediately caught fire. The other friends immediately extinguished it with water.
The two young people were seriously injured after being taken with emergency medical care first to the Rohrbach clinic and then flown to special clinics.
