Belgian football icon Jean-Marie Pfaff was one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the 1980s and was appointed world goalkeeper by the world governing body FiFA in 1987 – during his successful time at Bayern Munich. The 69-year-old recently opened his own museum in his home country and is looking forward to Friday’s European Championship qualifier in Vienna. Pfaff talked to the “Krone” about favorites, his glory days and companions such as Hans Krankl and Friedl Koncilia.
“Kron”: Mr Pfaff, next Friday Austria will face Belgium in the European Championship qualifiers. What is your prognosis?
Jean-Marie Pfaff: In my time there was always a draw in Vienna: whether it was with the national team or with Bayern against Austria. But this time we come to Vienna to win and finally get our ticket to the European Championship. I think it will be a fun game for the fans.
