A Ukrainian orphan boy (17) who was brought to Russia is allowed to return to his homeland. Both Russian and Ukrainian sources independently confirmed this on Friday. An agreement had been made for his return.
17-year-old Bogdan Yermochin lived in Mariupol before the war broke out in February 2022. After capture by Russian forces, he was taken first to the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk and later to the Moscow region. According to media reports, the trained metalworker was naturalized and had to hand over his military documents to the Russian army. Many Ukrainians in the Russian-occupied territories are like him. In March he tried to escape but was stopped by Russian security forces.
Addressed to Zelensky
Yermochin then addressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy directly in a video. “I ask you to help me return home,” he said. His lawyer distributed the video online.
Now the 17-year-old will actually be in Ukraine soon, said Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets. An agreement had been made about the return. Russian children’s rights representative Maria Alexeevna Lvowa-Belova added that both countries had reached an agreement on Yermoshin’s return to his cousin. She is his legal guardian. It is also said that “a third country” was involved in the action on November 19.
Thousands of minors kidnapped?
The International Criminal Court (ICC) accuses Russia of the “illegal deportation” of thousands of minors. Arrest warrants were therefore issued for the Russian president and Lwowa-Belowa (see video above). The Kremlin denies the accusations.
