The Ukrainian military has attacked and damaged two naval drone landing ships in Crimea’s annexed Black Sea peninsula. In addition, accommodation for Russian soldiers would have been affected.
The Ukrainian General Staff released video footage on Friday purporting to show the new attack on the west coast. The two affected landing ships are said to have armored vehicles on board. The pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel “Krymskyj weter” (in German: “The Wind of Crimea”) reported early Friday morning that a rocket had hit the Russian barracks. The information could not be independently verified.
No comment from Moscow
The war opponent in turn reported on the alleged shooting down of two drones over Crimea. However, the Kremlin did not comment on the naval attacks on the ships and the alleged impact on the barracks.
What is certain is that Crimea, which has been annexed by Russia since 2014, has been exposed to Ukrainian attacks for months. The aim is to reduce the operational capacity of the war fleet, which plays an important role. The Ukrainian government has repeatedly stated that it wants to retake the peninsula.
Advancing to the eastern bank of the Dnipro
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian military is currently having difficulty conquering additional territories in Ukraine. The Ukrainian army has advanced to the eastern bank of the Dnipro, an area where Russian units are ineffective (see video above).
