Wanted to set fire – prison sentence for Russian woman for attempted attack

Date:

In Russia, a young woman was sentenced to six years in prison for attempting to arson an aid depot for soldiers fighting in Ukraine. The 20-year-old was found guilty of “terrorism”, state news agency Ria Novosti reported on Friday, citing the FSB secret service.

The convicted woman acted on Kiev’s instructions. However, the woman’s supporters claimed she had been misled by the FSB.

According to Ria Novosti, Valeria Sotova was arrested in February in the Yaroslavl region, northeast of Moscow. She was about to “burn down” a collection point for clothing and food for soldiers fighting in Ukraine.

According to the report, the 20-year-old allegedly acted on orders from a Ukrainian military member to “destabilize” authorities in Russia and thus “put an end to special military operations” in Ukraine.

The woman is said to have been pressured by the FSB to carry out the attack
The organization Zona Solidarnosti, which advocates for the detainees over their stance on Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, said Sotova was pressured by secret service agents to carry out the arson attempt. The woman was targeted by the FSB because of her “anti-war positions”.
