Man dies on the road – alcoholic driver mows down crash victim and helper

Tragic accident Saturday evening in Weißkirchen, Styria: a 62-year-old woman wanted to help a fallen scooter driver. An alcoholic driver was unable to brake and hit the two without braking. The man died immediately at the scene of the accident. The helper was seriously injured.

The tragic accident took place on Friday around 11:40 PM on the B77 near Weißkirchen. A 50-year-old man from the Murtal district was riding his e-scooter on a public road, where there is no artificial light, when he fell due to his own fault. The driver of an oncoming vehicle noticed the accident, stopped his vehicle and turned on the hazard lights. The driver’s 62-year-old wife was the first to get out of the vehicle to provide first aid to the injured scooter driver.

Alko-Handler caught the two without braking
A 25-year-old motorist who arrived on the scene a short time later overlooked all this. Without stopping, he hit the accident victim and the first aid worker. The 50-year-old died at the scene of the accident, the 62-year-old was initially taken to LKH Judenburg and then to LKH Graz with life-threatening injuries.

An alcohol test on the driver of the car showed a moderate alcohol content. The Leoben Public Prosecution Service ordered the seizure of the vehicles involved and an autopsy of the 50-year-old scooter driver. The relatives were notified by the police in the presence of the crisis intervention team. The motorist is reported to the Leoben public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence.
