Since the start of the Gaza war, the Israeli navy says it has discovered dozens of weapons and military equipment in the sea near the Gaza Strip – above and below the water’s surface.
Islamist Hamas wanted to use the weapons and explosives in attempts to advance into Israeli territory, the army said on Monday. The Navy thwarted these attempts.
Weapons depots on the beach and in the sea
The underwater operations unit found explosives, explosive belts, ammunition, inflatable boats and a rocket. The explosives were “neutralized”. The information could not initially be independently verified.
The Palestinian leader wants aid deliveries
The Palestinian head of government in the West Bank, Mohammed Shtayyeh, has meanwhile called on the EU and the United Nations to drop aid supplies across the Gaza Strip. Aid deliveries should be halted especially in the north of the Palestinian territory, “as has been done countless times around the world,” Shtayyeh said Monday at a Palestinian Authority cabinet meeting in Ramallah.
The Palestinian prime minister demanded that more humanitarian aid be delivered on land and that additional ‘aid corridors’ be set up next to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Israel attacks targets in southern Lebanon
After attacks from Lebanon, the Israeli army again fired on targets in the northern neighboring country. “Terrorists fired an anti-tank missile from Lebanon into the area of Netua in northern Israel,” the army said on Monday.
In addition, several mortar shells were fired at Israel and landed in open areas. There are no reports of injuries. However, the Haaretz website reported several injuries.
