Until Monday evening, voters could submit entries in every municipality in Austria or online for the three referendums “Justice for nursing staff!”, “COVID referendum on fine payments” and “Abolish compulsory vaccination law – referendum”. The three referenda have overcome the 100,000 signature threshold for parliamentary consideration, but overall they have not produced outstanding results.
The top-performing initiative was one dedicated to justice for healthcare providers, which attracted 131,921 supporters. The Covid referendum on the reimbursement of fines was signed by 101,652 people.
The third and last place of the registration week was achieved by a referendum on the abolition of compulsory vaccination, which was signed by 101,393 Austrians.
For a referendum to be considered in the National Council, at least 100,000 signatures are needed. The Federal Electoral Authority will announce the final results for the three referendums mentioned at its meeting at the end of November 2023, after making any corrections.
