A Viennese police officer was the victim of an attempted robbery on Keplerplatz in Favoriten on Sunday afternoon. The EGS officer (combating street crime) was in plain clothes when a man (22) suddenly pushed him from behind and grabbed his jacket pocket. The suspect was arrested, but denies the crime.
At around 5:35 p.m., civilian officers were carrying out targeted checks to combat drug-related crime at Keplerplatz when the incident occurred. Suddenly, one of the police officers was violently pushed from behind and almost fell.
The planned robbery went wrong
The police officer saw how the strange man reached into his jacket pocket and fled. The officer immediately gave chase along with other civilian police officers. The suspect was quickly arrested and arrested. The man was a 22-year-old Syrian. The man also had a small amount of drugs with him.
Suspect denies incident
According to him, the man had not planned the robbery. According to him, the incident was just a mistake. The 22-year-old was reported to be at large.
