The Israeli army says it has taken control of several government buildings from the Islamist Hamas in Gaza city. This included parliament and the military police headquarters, it said on Tuesday. Israeli military units also took control of an engineering faculty. This served as an “institute for the production and development of weapons”.
On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Hamas has now “lost control in Gaza” (see video above). Hamas fighters are fleeing to the south of the area, and civilians are looting Hamas bases. According to military reports, the Israeli Air Force attacked 200 targets in the Gaza Strip on Monday. They included members of terrorist organizations, weapons depots, missile launch pads and command centers, the military said Tuesday. During ground operations, soldiers also uncovered a tunnel shaft in a mosque in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas naval training camp attacked
On Tuesday evening, Israeli naval forces also attacked a Hamas military camp, the army said. The Hamas navy, which rules the Gaza Strip, used it for training and to store weapons. The Army’s information has not yet been independently verified. Israel has attacked thousands of targets in the closed off and densely populated coastal area since the start of the Gaza war on October 7.
Meanwhile, two water suppliers in the southern Gaza Strip have stopped working due to a lack of fuel, according to the UN. As a result, 200,000 people no longer have drinking water, reports the UN emergency aid agency OCHA. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is unsure how it will maintain its humanitarian support to hundreds of thousands in the second half of the week. The last fuel supplies are practically used up. This also raises questions about the distribution of aid arriving from Egypt through the Rafah border crossing. According to OCHA, aid workers are also said to be unable to respond to calls for help from people buried under the rubble after Israeli bombings.
Nearly 1.6 of the approximately 2.3 million residents of the closed Gaza Strip have been displaced since Israeli attacks began on October 7. About half of the internally displaced persons are staying in UNRWA facilities and have so far been provided with basic needs. Israel responded with its strikes to the massive terrorist attack by the Islamist Hamas in southern Israel, which left about 1,200 dead. The terrorists also kidnapped about 240 people in the Gaza Strip.
Rockets were fired at Israel again
Meanwhile, Palestinian extremists from the Gaza Strip fired rockets into southern Israel again on Tuesday. According to the army, rocket alarms were activated in places near the Gaza Strip. There were initially no reports of injuries. According to the military, the number of attacks from the Gaza Strip on Israel has decreased significantly since the start of ground operations in the Gaza Strip.
