A horse that escaped from its transport box forced a cargo plane to turn back shortly after takeoff from New York.
As American media reported on Tuesday, the horse escaped from its stall half an hour after takeoff from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, when the Air Atlanta Icelandic Boeing 747 had already reached an altitude of 9,500 meters.
The crew was unable to catch the animal
Because the crew was unable to recapture the animal, the pilot asked air traffic control for permission to abort the flight to Liège, Belgium, and return to New York. “We don’t have a flight problem, but we have to get back to New York because we can’t get the horse back under control,” the pilot said in his radio message, according to ABC News.
To land safely, the plane being refueled for the transatlantic flight had to dump 20 tons of fuel across the Atlantic Ocean. The plane now landed in Liège.
