Dramatic turnaround after two days of large-scale search for missing man in Feldbach: the fall into the water, which several children claim to have witnessed, was fictional. They wanted to make a ‘joke’. Nobody can laugh about it.
A state of emergency has been in effect in Feldbach since Wednesday: Several children had informed the police that they had seen a man wearing only his underpants fall into the Raab!
Search with more than 100 emergency services
The result was a large-scale search: police, rescue brigade, fire brigade, water rescue – up to 100 emergency services frantically searched for the (presumably) missing person. When you fall into ice-cold water, every minute counts. And on the shore, both a tent and clothing were seized, which was probably the misfortune of a homeless man.
Two days later, when there was still no result despite the intensive search, the children between the ages of eight and ten were interviewed again. According to the police, they became increasingly involved in contradictions.
I wanted to make a joke
It soon became clear: it was all a lie. The fall and the missing person never happened. The reason they gave was that they wanted to make a joke about their manager.
Fake emergency calls are becoming expensive
The children are younger than 14 years old and therefore cannot be prosecuted. The question remains whether the parents will have to bear the costs of the enormous search operation. The police usually point out that the costs will be reimbursed for false emergency notifications!
