Six foals have now moved to Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. They come straight from a foal market. What would have happened to them otherwise is extremely doubtful.
Fate was good for Nuria, Mella, Pia, Herzog, Zafar and Alfred. The six foals are now at home in Henndorf with Gut Aiderbichl. They probably escaped certain death. Because fFor many foals from markets, the final destination is the slaughterhouse. Colts in particular often have bad cards. They are forced into crowded vans and often have to stand for painfully long periods of time. Many suffer serious injuries or become infected with diseases.
„We would like to see this foal rescue as a symbolic act. We live in a world where animals are still traded as mere commodities. It cannot continue like this“, says Dieter Ehrengruber, director and board member of the Gut Aiderbichl foundation.
Animal rights activists have been fighting for years to save the foals. For Gut Aiderbichl it was not the first time that the animal welfare organization bought foals at an auction. The story of Fohlen Kathi has already made many people think. Michael Aufhauser bought foal number 53 in 2004 at a horse slaughter market. Gut Aiderbichl was also able to save Nonius from being transported to the butcher in 2019, when he was six months old.
