Russia’s chief propagandist Margarita Simonyan always causes a stir. Now she provides deep insights into the tough Russian media world and shows what she has to deal with.
“I myself, like most public figures in the country, regularly fall victim to what is considered a common practice in our media… Namely blackmail,” Simonyan admitted in a message on Telegram.
The 43-year-old regularly has to pay money to other media companies to prevent negative reports about her. The fear is that if she doesn’t do this, she could be charged with the authorities.
“I experienced all this and I am still experiencing it,” she explains. For them it is nothing more and nothing less than ‘business as usual’ and everyone knows how it works.
The journalist does not want to file a complaint because it is ‘contrary to her religion’. As long as her country is not undermined and only she is personally harmed, she is willing to take it upon herself.
She earns the required amount every month. “You can call me a wimp,” said Simonjan.
