Passers-by as rescuers – Fire in the kitchen: man (66) seriously injured in Tyrol

Date:

Shocking moment for a 66-year-old resident on Friday evening in his apartment in Schwaz. A fire probably started during cooking. Passersby saw the fire and came to help.

Shortly after 9 p.m., a fire broke out in the 66-year-old’s kitchen. Two passers-by (27 and 35 years old) who happened to be walking past the apartment building noticed the fire and raised the alarm. While the 27-year-old alerted all residents and removed them from the apartment complex, the 35-year-old removed the seriously injured 66-year-old from his apartment.

He was taken by the rescue team to the Schwaz district hospital with suspected severe smoke poisoning. The fire extinguished itself.

Was oil in the pan the trigger?
“It is suspected that the 66-year-old wanted to prepare a meal on the stove and lit a pan with oil,” investigators said. The kitchen was significantly damaged. Because the opposite apartments are connected to the same exhaust system, there was also a lot of smoke. However, no damage was done. No one else was injured.
