In Vienna-Brigittenau the unpopular bloodsuckers have taken over student housing. Now the exterminators had to leave.
They are not much bigger than an apple core and yet usually cause a lot of excitement. We’re talking about bed bugs that have now infested a student dormitory. Affected: the Brigittenau campus in Forsthausgasse. More than 1,700 people live in a total of five houses.
“Immediate action taken”
In an interview with the “Krone”, accommodation operator Wihast regretfully admits the unpleasant nuisance. “The infection was discovered at the end of last week. All necessary measures were immediately taken to ensure that no further spread occurred,” says the “Krone”.
“Increased risk of introduction”
They do not want to reveal how many rooms and residents are involved. Just as much: all residents received the necessary support. The adjacent rooms were also treated to prevent spread. It was also immediately assumed how the pests entered the houses. “High travel activity leads to an increased risk of introduction into our homes.”
For the little bloodsuckers, mass accommodations such as student houses or hotels are a true paradise and difficult to avoid. The pests especially like to live in mattresses or slatted frames. In recent weeks and months there has been a real invasion of France. There is already talk of an epidemic there.
