Police in the German Lake Constance community of Überlingen (Baden-Württemberg) are dealing with an extremely unusual burglary. Two unknown perpetrators hijacked a wheeled excavator, drove it to an electronics store, where they smashed a window and escaped unnoticed with two gaming consoles.
On Wednesday evening around 10:30 p.m., two unknown people had started an excavator from a construction site several hundred meters away and drove to the store’s parking lot. Around midnight they broke through the glass facade of the market with the excavator and thus gained access to the sales area.
Escaped in a Ford pickup
There, one of the two burglars took two Sony game consoles, after which both got into a Ford Ranger and fled in an unknown direction. Although the damage caused by the theft is estimated at around 1,000 euros, the material damage is likely to be considerably higher, according to the police.
Two cars worth 135,000 euros were also stolen
The Überlingen police station has started an investigation and is asking witnesses who became aware of the crime or the dark gray pickup to come forward. According to the police, it cannot be ruled out at this time whether there is a connection with the theft of two cars with a total value of 135,000 euros from a neighboring car dealer, which took place on the same evening.
