During a dispute, a Turk attacked a fellow countryman with a knife in a refugee camp. The victim suffered a cut and was taken to hospital. The suspected perpetrator is in custody.
The quarrel between a Turkish asylum seeker (34) and a 29-year-old compatriot got completely out of hand last weekend in an accommodation in Leiben in the Melk district. The men, who lived together in a room, initially had heated discussions until the older man became so angry that he suddenly grabbed a knife and attacked his opponent with it.
Wound on upper arm
The victim suffered a cut on his upper arm and was then taken to St. Pölten Hospital. The alleged attacker was arrested and is now also in the state capital – in prison.
“Law and Order”
The case also fuels discussions about a knife ban and the asylum system. The Lower Austrian FPÖ headquarters reported that measures had already been taken: “The bloody knife attack shows that our tightening of the Basic Services Act was simply a necessity. In concrete terms, an asylum seeker loses his basic services if he is found with a weapon in and around a refugee shelter,” a party spokesman said on Monday.
And the regional councillor responsible for asylum, Christoph Luisser, confirms: “We are restoring public order in Lower Austria, it is about protecting life and limb.”
