On Saturday evening, two owners of a freight transport company met one of their drivers at a rest area on the Pyhrnautobahn A9. The employee is suspected of attacking and wounding his two superiors with a knife. He was arrested while fleeing.
The two bosses of a forwarding company, father (62) and son (34), traveled from Hungary on Saturday evening to have an enlightening conversation with one of their drivers. The 56-year-old suspect, also a Hungarian citizen, was at the time with his 29-year-old son in the Zeltweg district. The junior boss took the truck to the Deutschfeistritz gas station to jointly assess the damage. The senior partner, the suspect and his son were also at the scene.
As the 34-year-old walked around the vehicle, the 56-year-old struck him with his fist. He then pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him in the upper body. The 62-year-old father rushed to help his son when he realized what was happening. The suspect then shouted at him and stabbed him as well. Now the 34-year-old son came to his father’s aid again and hit the perpetrator with his flashlight.
Perpetrator arrested, victimemergency operation
The 56-year-old used the truck as a getaway vehicle and headed north with his son. However, the gas station attendant noticed what had happened and alerted the police. As a result, all tunnels on the A9 were closed to all traffic in both directions. Police from the rapid intervention group were finally able to arrest the fugitive at the south portal of the Gleinalm tunnel.
The two injured people were taken to the LKH Graz by the Red Cross. The senior partner suffered serious injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery that night. He’s out of danger now. His son was slightly injured and was able to leave the hospital after outpatient treatment. The suspect also suffered minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient at the LKH Judenburg.
The investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department is ongoing
Murder investigators and crime scene specialists from the Styrian State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the further investigation. The knife was recovered. The suspect was interrogated and confessed. He was taken to Graz-Jakomini prison. Discussions with the victims are still ongoing.
