A fatal incident occurred in a psychiatric hospital in the American state of New Hampshire on Friday. An armed man entered the building and shot a security guard. However, the attacker could not reach the patient area and was killed by a police officer.
“A police officer assigned to the hospital and the immediate area immediately intervened and shot the suspect,” police representative Mark Hall said at a news conference.
There was no threat to the public and no threat to patients or hospital staff, Hall said. The incident was limited to the entrance of the clinic.
The victim (63) was a former police officer
The victim is said to be a 63-year-old security guard who previously worked for the police. Nothing was revealed about the attacker.
Large contingent of security forces in front of the clinic
Police had previously said there were “several victims”. Television images showed a large contingent of security forces at the clinic. The New Hampshire Hospital in the capital, Concord, is a 185-bed hospital that treats patients with acute mental illnesses.
