Back in prison – escaped prisoner (16) captured after a week

Date:

A week ago, a 16-year-old prisoner held in Gerasdorf prison in Lower Austria escaped. Now he could be tracked down and arrested in Vienna. A teenager (17) is suspected of having hidden it.

The boy fled on November 13 during a medical examination at the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital. Thanks to painstaking investigations, his whereabouts were traced, the state police of Lower Austria announced.

17-year-old under suspicion of cronyism
On Monday afternoon, the 16-year-old was arrested in Vienna-Ottakring and taken back to Gerasdorf prison. A 17-year-old from Wiener Neustadt was identified as a suspect on suspicion of favoritism.

She didn’t confess. Once the investigation is completed, she will be reported to the Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor’s office, police said.

Dismissal scheduled for January
After his escape attempt, the 16-year-old could face a longer prison sentence than originally planned: the teenager would actually have been released in January 2024.
