Two officers injured – suspect (29) stole two cars and caused an accident

Date:

A 29-year-old Croat allegedly stole two vehicles near Sölden (Tyrol) on Monday evening. He probably caused an accident with the first one. During the later arrest, he fought back and injured two officers. The LKA Tirol started the investigation.

A 29-year-old Croat must have had a wild night on Monday evening. He is initially suspected of breaking open the garage door of a house in Gurgl and stealing a car there. According to initial findings, he probably drove towards Untergurgl. But he didn’t get far: after more than 700 meters he caused a traffic accident.

Second car immediately stolen
The suspected thief is said to have left the accident car where it was. Without further ado, he grabbed a second car from the garage and fled to Innsbruck.

After another accident shortly later with material damage on Kranebitter Allee, the vehicle then drove at increased speed towards Ötztal. “In Sölden, the car was finally stopped by police at 6:30 am and the 29-year-old driver was arrested despite attempts to resist state authority,” police said. The Croat resisted and slightly injured two officers.

Suspect in custody
Now the Tyrolean State Police has taken over the case. The 29-year-old, who also does not have a driver’s license, denies the thefts and states that the vehicles were given to him by an unknown person. “The man refused to take an alcohol test. He was taken to Innsbruck prison,” investigators said. This will be followed by notifications to the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office and the responsible administrative authorities.
