In the ground – “Cold Case”: wedding ring found after 50 years

Date:

A detectorist made an 81-year-old Austrian woman happy when she found her wedding ring in a field near Hohenlinden, east of Munich. The woman had previously lived in the city and lost the ring after her wedding in 1964, the Ebersberger Zeitung reported on Wednesday.

It has been more than fifty years since Anna lost her ring of honor. Now a detectorist, a police officer, has discovered the gold ring in the ground. With persistent research he tracked down the woman, who now lives in Pongau, Salzburg.

Engraving in the ring
The man tracked down the woman through the wedding date, which was engraved on the ring with the name ‘Georg’. The Hohenlinden civil registry found the marriage of Georg and Anna in the archives on that day in April 1964. However, the bride could not initially be located at the time. Thanks to a tip from his wife, the Hohenlinden police officer eventually came across a family bearing the couple’s surname and was able to clear everything up.

Woman who has been a widow for 40 years
The bride was widowed in 1974, ten years after the wedding, married again and eventually moved to Austria with her new husband and children, the newspaper wrote, also naming the 81-year-old. The woman on the phone said she couldn’t believe she was so lucky.
