From Monday, the Vienna Regional Court will deal with bribery or bribery of Wiener Wohnen foremen. “My clients have not received any vouchers,” said lawyer Norbert Wess, who represents 35 of the defendants. The alleged allegations date back more than a decade.
Because the responsible foremen at Wiener Wohnen would ‘skip’ inspections, a 58-year-old businessman came up with the idea of reporting damage himself. His company, specialized in glassware, had a framework contract for defects in municipal buildings. From that moment on, the technicians made ‘house lists’ and the foremen placed orders. The catch: According to the WKStA, many of the damage cases did not even occur, such as broken glass. To simulate glass replacement, the windows were simply cleaned and the grout replaced.
WKStA: “Unusually large amount of evidence”
For invoicing the fictitious services, the foremen were ‘rewarded’ with vouchers worth approximately three percent of the order total. “There is an unusually large amount of evidence supporting the awarding and acceptance of benefits,” the WKStA wrote in its 44-page complaint. The gigantic bribery and bribery trial against 53 (!) suspects starts on Monday in Landl, Vienna.
The period of the crime was more than ten years ago
“Another classic example of far too long a procedure at the WKStA,” says Manfred Ainedter, one of the prominent lawyers in the case. The suspected crime period from April 2011 to January 2013 was more than ten years ago. Lawyer Norbert Wess: “All 35 accused foremen represented by us will not admit guilt. They have not received any vouchers.”
