Weather extremes such as heat, drought and floods are felt throughout Europe and not just in Austria.
Climate change is not an abstract threat, but has entered people’s minds. While one in two people in Austria are concerned about the consequences, this is two-thirds across Europe. This is evident from a survey by Marketagent among 38,000 people.
Accordingly, eight in ten Europeans are already feeling the changes in daily life; in Austria, seven in ten feel at least partially affected (see graph below).
The most serious challenges facing citizens include climate change, wars and the destruction of nature. We are good at separating waste and saving electricity. There is still a lot of catching up to do in the field of water savings.
Majority in favor of ban on private planes
Shortly before the EU Transport Council, Greenpeace published an Integrated investigation. Two-thirds are in favor of a ban on private jets. Moreover, 70 percent are in favor of ending short-haul flights. Moreover, the majority is in favor of a kerosene tax, comparable to the tax on petrol or diesel.
“Transport Minister Gewessler must pull the strings and campaign for an end to private jets at EU level,” demands Marc Dengler of Greenpeace.
