A huge speed limit is now expensive for a driver in Switzerland. Because he sometimes drove more than twice the speed limit, the Swiss federal court sentenced him to three years in prison – in addition, the Swiss-born man was expelled from the country for seven years. According to the court, there was “moderate or serious” culpability.
The dangerous ride was filmed by the driver’s cousin, who bragged about it on a social media platform shortly after. Unfortunately, the two men documented that the 50-speed limit was exceeded by a whopping 40 miles per hour.
36 months in prison
Outside the city, the man eventually accelerated to 214 km/h – but only 80 km/h would have been allowed at this point. In addition, there is also a particularly dangerous driving style: in the city he overtook a vehicle despite oncoming traffic – in addition, the then 34-year-old Turk was not wearing a seat belt and had no vehicle documents with him.
The Supreme Court of the Canton of Solothurn was much less pleased with the action than the two men. The speed demon was eventually sentenced to 36 months in prison for some “qualified gross traffic violations” – in addition to the seven years deportation requested by the prosecutor.
A challenge made the judgment even harsher
Turkey, a native of Switzerland, actually wanted to get a suspended prison sentence by challenging the original decision of the responsible court – but no deportation from the country was originally planned for him.
According to the court, the man must be considered a threat to public safety. To make matters worse, the man already has several previous convictions and has committed multiple traffic violations.
