Arrested in Vienna – Prisoner who escaped from hospital, captured by police

Date:

The woman ran away during treatment at the Wiener Neustadt regional hospital. Two other prisoners remain at large.

An inmate from the Schwarzau Prison (JA) in Schwarzau (Neunkirchen district), who disappeared about two weeks ago as part of an unsupervised stay at the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital, has emerged. The woman was arrested in Vienna and sent back to prison, police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner confirmed on Friday.

Unattended in the hospital
Regarding the prisoners, the Ministry of Justice recently stated that the hospital stay had been approved by the prison authorities of the first instance as unsupervised, “since there were repeated exits to maintain social contacts (such as with the children), from which the prisoner always returned correctly”.

The woman “showed very good enforcement behavior and was thrown off course by bad news,” it was emphasized. In the Schwarzau correctional institution she served a prison sentence for property crimes, which was to end in the spring of 2025.

Two prisoners are still on the run
The search continues for a 35-year-old inmate at Stein Prison. The Chechen had fled last Tuesday as part of a research appointment at Krems University Hospital. An hour-long alarm search turned up negative.

A 16-year-old prisoner, who also escaped the week before, was arrested in Vienna-Ottakring on Monday and returned to the youth prison in Gerasdorf, where he had originally served a prison sentence.

Another inmate escaped on Thursday. The inmate at the Vienna-Josefstadt Prison escaped during treatment at the Vienna General Hospital. The 28-year-old is classified as very dangerous. Police published a mugshot of the man in the evening and are asking for information from the public.
